This is an Alaskan Native made halibut hook. It is signed Harvey. My mom was given this by the artist's daughter in the mid 1950's when she was stationed in Alaska.
The carving is of a raven and the barb is made of ivory and very sharp. All of the cording is still very tight.
The top of the hook is 10 inches long and the bottom is just a little under 10 inches long. The ivory barb is 1.5 inches long.
The wood is a beautiful reddish brown.
***I have also just found the large black rock that's used as a sinker for it.*** The rock is very smooth and has had a groove cut into it for twine or rope. Its about 5 inches long and about 2.25 inches tall. The string for this has long since fallen off.
